Verdict Reached in Trial of Former High School Psychologist Michael Chevrier

GOLDEN, Colo. (Jan. 12, 2026) – A Jefferson County jury has returned its verdicts in the trial of People v. James Michael Chevrier (DOB: 1/9/87). Chevrier was convicted of five charges, including the top charge of Sexual Assault on a Child. He was acquitted of two charges.

Chevrier was tried for crimes alleged to have occurred while he was employed as a staff psychologist at Green Mountain High School and Bear Creek High School. The charges involved three students, as well as separate drug-related offenses.

Please see the verdicts below on the crimes charged:

Count 1:  Sexual Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust (Vic 1); Guilty.

Count 2:  Soliciting for Child Prostitution (Vic 2); Not Guilty.

Count 3:  Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (MDMA); Guilty.

Count 4:  Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance (Ketamine); Guilty.

Count 5:  Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor (Vic 1 – Alcohol); Guilty.

Count 6:  Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor (Vic 1 – Marijuana); Guilty.

Count 7: Attempted Sexual Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust (Vic 3); Not Guilty.

After a five-day trial, the jury began deliberations late on Friday. The jurors resumed deliberations on Monday morning and reached a verdict just after 12 pm.

Chevrier had been out on bond and living out of state during the pendency of his case. Following today’s verdicts, he was remanded into custody on counts one, three, four, five, and six. The Court dismissed counts two and seven.

His sentencing date is April 2, 2026, at 8:30 am.
