GOLDEN, Colo. (July 1, 2026) – The First Judicial District Attorney’s Office has charged Menashe Evro, 28, with 13 criminal counts, including felony theft and criminal exploitation charges, following a months-long investigation into allegations that he stole from and financially exploited multiple people through his locksmith business. The charges involve seven alleged victims, including several at-risk persons between the ages of 76 and 91.

The investigation began in January 2026 after the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received a potential fraud report involving an elderly Littleton couple. The couple told police they had used Call-A-Locksmith.com to locate a locksmith who could repair a lock on their porch storage door. A locksmith from Fortis Locksmith arrived, purchased a two-pack of replacement locks, and quoted the couple $229 for the service. The couple reported they subsequently received an invoice from the company, and their credit card had been charged $4,381.80.

After their attempt to dispute the charge directly with Fortis Locksmith was unsuccessful, the couple disputed the charge through their bank and was reimbursed for all but the original $229 cost of the locksmith fee. Fortunately, the couple’s neighbor had Ring Doorbell camera footage of the male who replaced the lock, which was provided to police.

In March 2026, investigators were made aware of local news media coverage of a 90-year-old Highlands Ranch woman who had hired someone from Fortis Locksmith and allegedly been significantly overcharged.

After the news report, and as the investigation progressed, detectives uncovered multiple similar reports across Front Range jurisdictions involving elderly victims who reported being overcharged by a locksmith. Through these additional police reports, state business records, and witness information, investigators had identified a potential suspect named Menashe Evro.

Investigators believe Evro reportedly advertised or conducted locksmith services under multiple business names, including Fortis Locksmith, Eden Locksmith, 24/7 Locksmith, Gold Key Locksmiths, KeyMe Locksmith and Englewood Lock and Safe.

Factual Summary:

In September 2025, a 79-year-old Wheat Ridge woman reported that she had been charged $4,402.24 from Eden Locksmith LLC for replacement of two locks.

In October 2025, a 76-year-old Broomfield resident who contacted Key Me Locksmith, reported being charged $4,725 for two locks to be re-keyed.

In January 2026, a Lakewood resident reported to police she had contacted Gold Key Locksmiths through an online search to re-key two locks for her 91-year-old parents. She reported that she was quoted $239 for the work, however the credit card was charged $1,869.48.

The same week, another Lakewood resident, who was 79 years old at the time, reported to police that he had been charged $4,803.63 to re-key four doors on a commercial building. Both Lakewood residents received invoices from a company called Eden Locksmith.

A few weeks later, a 90-year-old Highlands Ranch resident reported she was quoted $160 for the work but her credit card was charged $3871.87. After the woman’s daughter reported the incident to CBS News and the business was contacted by a CBS Investigative Reporter, the woman was reimbursed $1200 from the company.

In February 2026, a 91-year-old Centennial resident reported to police that a locksmith had attempted to charge $2700 and then $4500.

On May 29, 2026, following a review of the investigation conducted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and in light of the time span and number of alleged offenses, the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office filed 13 criminal counts arising from multiple counties as part of a single criminal episode. An arrest warrant was subsequently issued for Evro.

On June 10, 2026, Evro was arrested by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and taken into custody. The next day, he posted a $10,000 surety bond and was released from custody with the condition that he appear for future court dates.

Evro made his first appearance in Jefferson County District Court on June 22, 2026. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. July 22, 2026.

The criminal court case is 2026CR001076.
