GOLDEN, Colo. (Oct. 1, 2026) — The Grand Jury for Jefferson and Gilpin counties has returned an eleven-count indictment against Carlos Hernandez-Fernandez, 46, charging him with falsely representing himself as a licensed medical doctor and allegedly performing unauthorized medical procedures on multiple victims between September 2024 and September 2025.

The indictment includes three counts of Assault in the First Degree (F3), one count of Assault in the Second Degree (F4), two counts of Criminal Attempt to Commit Assault in the First Degree (F4), and five counts of Unauthorized Practice of Profession or Occupation – Medicine (F6).

In February 2025, Hernandez-Fernandez, in partnership with an Arizona-based licensed medical doctor, opened Bare Beauty Aesthetic Care in Lakewood, advertising the business as a medical spa. However, Hernandez-Fernandez is not a licensed medical doctor.

According to the indictment, between June and August 2025, Hernandez-Fernandez performed a transconjunctival blepharoplasty (lower eyelid surgery), a rhinoplasty, a liposuction, removal of lipomas, and received payment for consultations on performing a tummy tuck and breast augmentation or revision surgical procedure.

Following a complaint in August 2025, the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) issued a cease-and-desist order to Hernandez-Fernandez, and the Lakewood Police Department initiated a criminal investigation.

The First Judicial Grand Jury began its investigation in June 2026. On Wednesday, the eleven-count indictment was presented to the First Judicial District Court, and an arrest warrant was issued for Hernandez-Fernandez.

Earlier today, he was arrested by the Lakewood Police Department and is currently being held on a $750,000 cash-only bond.

Hernandez-Fernandez is scheduled for advisement tomorrow, October 2, at 10:00 a.m.

The criminal court case is 26CR1908.

The filing of criminal charges is a formal accusation that a defendant committed a crime under Colorado law. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
