GOLDEN, Colo. (Jun. 1, 2026) – A Jefferson County jury has found Brent John Metz guilty of Third Degree Assault (M1), the lesser included offense of Second Degree Assault, and Illegal Discharge of a Firearm (F5). He was acquitted of Second Degree Assault and two counts of Menacing.

Following a five-day trial, the jury deliberated for several hours before returning its verdict just after four o’clock on Monday.

Based on Metz’s conviction of a felony involving the use of a firearm, Metz was immediately remanded into custody.

Sentencing is set on 6/15/26 at 1:15 P.M. and if the presentence investigation cannot be done by then sentencing will be heard on July 7, 2026 at 2:30 P.M.
