GOLDEN, Colo. (May 8, 2026) – The First Judicial District Attorney’s Office has charged Damien Lee Sronce with two counts of vehicular homicide following the investigation into the crash that killed an Arvada couple.
On Feb. 14, 2026, at approximately 8:00 p.m., Colorado State Patrol and West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of West Colfax Avenue and Youngfield Street.
The Colorado State Patrol investigation revealed that Sronce’s vehicle, a Mitsubishi Lancer, was traveling at approximately 89 mph in a 45 mph zone just before the collision. The crash occurred as the victims, traveling in a Ford Escort, were attempting a left turn onto Youngfield Street.
The occupants of the Escort, an Arvada couple, both aged 78, were killed in the collision as they were traveling home from a Valentine’s Day celebration.
Sronce and his passenger remained on the scene and were not injured. Following the investigation by the Colorado State Patrol, Sronce was arrested on April 28, 2026.
The First Judicial District Attorney’s Office has filed the following five counts against Sronce:
Count 1: Vehicular Homicide – Reckless Driving (F4)
Count 2: Vehicular Homicide – Reckless Driving (F4)
Count 3: Compulsory Insurance (T1)
Count 4: Speeding (T2)
Count 5: Reckless Driving (T2)
Sronce has since posted a $100,000 cash or surety bond. His first court appearance was this morning. The next court date is a preliminary hearing on June 4, 2026, at 8:00 a.m.
The charges are merely legal allegations; Damien Scronce is presumed innocent of the charges against him unless and until he is proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
