Special Victim Cases

a specialized approach

The First Judicial District Attorney’s Office utilizes a unique approach toward cases involving crimes against children, domestic violence, elder abuse, human trafficking and sexual assault.

Crimes Against Children

A partnership between the District Attorney’s Office and the Ralston House Child Advocacy Center provides a multi-disciplinary team approach to child abuse investigations.

Family Violence & Relationship Abuse

The First Judicial District Attorney’s Office has numerous attorneys on staff with a wealth of knowledge and experience in cases involving relationship abuse or family violence – also known as domestic violence. Outside of the courtroom, we are also an active community partner with our local family justice center, PorchLight.

Elder Abuse

Serving one of the largest populations of older adults in Colorado, the Elder Abuse Unit (EAU) works to specifically target perpetrators of elder abuse by collaborating with law enforcement agencies, Adult Protective Services and others who serve this population. Mandatory reporting of suspected elder abuse and exploitation became law in Colorado in 2014, and each report is reviewed for potential criminal conduct.

Human Trafficking

Since 2015, the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office has contributed expertise in the area of human trafficking as part of a multi-disciplinary team that works to identify and protect individuals in our community who are most vulnerable to exploitation.

Sexual Assault

The District Attorney’s Sexual Assault Rapid Response Team (SARRT) handles felony sexual assault cases through research-based practices that enhance collaboration and strengthen our response to sexual assault cases.
