We're Here for You
Our new Proof of Insurance program offers community members an opportunity to resolve their summons without the need to appear in court, promoting safer, insured driving while improving the efficiency of our court system.

Early Dismissal Eligibility for No Proof of Insurance Summons
If you received a summons for not having insurance when contacted by police, you may qualify for dismissal of your case. To be eligible, you must provide proof of insurance to our office at least two weeks before the court date on your summons.
Eligibility Criteria:
- The summons must be solely for the charge of no proof of insurance.
- You must submit proof of insurance at least two weeks before the scheduled court date.
Important Note:
- If your summons includes additional charges other than no proof of insurance, you do not qualify for early dismissal and must appear in court on the date specified on your summons.

FAQ
Am I eligible for the program if I have a license from a state other than Colorado?
Yes. The program is available to eligible participants regardless of the issuing state of the license.
I submitted my information successfully, now what happens?
We will process your submission as quickly as possible, but please note it may take up to two weeks for your summons to be entered into our system. As a result, there may be a short delay before we can begin verifying your information. Once verification is complete, you will receive a text message and an email confirming that your case has been closed and your court date has been vacated.
Please note: the confirmation you received upon submitting your information is only a receipt of submission—it is not a notice of dismissal. If you did not receive a submission confirmation and believe you completed the process, please call 303-271-6950 and leave a message.
What do I do if I am unable to upload my information?
Call 303-271-6950 and leave a message describing the issue and someone from our team will get back to you.
I submitted my information, but it was less than two weeks from my scheduled court date. Do I still need to appear?
Yes. Failure to appear on your scheduled court date may result in a warrant being issued.
I didn’t have insurance on the vehicle I was driving when I received my summons. Am I still eligible for the program?
Yes. However, to have your case dismissed you must purchase insurance coverage and submit proof at least two weeks prior to your scheduled court date.
What if I was driving a vehicle I don’t own, but the vehicle was insured by the owner at the time I received the summons? What information should I submit?
You will need to submit a copy of the insurance for the vehicle you were driving. Contact the owner of the vehicle and submit a copy of their insurance.
I no longer own the vehicle I was driving and do not have my own vehicle. Do I still need to provide proof of insurance?
You can obtain Non-Owner car insurance and submit this as proof of insurance.
About our proof of insurance program

We regularly review data to inform and support our office policies, and in 2024, our office reviewed dismissal trends, particularly in traffic cases, which make up 40% of County Court cases and the largest share of dismissals. A key finding was that 38% of all dismissals were for ‘no proof of insurance’ (NPOI). Since January 2023, 6,334 NPOI cases were dismissed, with 83% of dismissals occurring when individuals came to court and provided proof of insurance. Of those, 65% brought proof on their own, and 18% received assistance from our Pathways Safe & Licensed Driver program.
We aim to focus prosecutorial resources on individuals who truly pose a risk rather than those who may have simply forgotten their insurance card or had a coverage lapse and have the ability to become insured. To support this, we launched our Proof of Insurance program, offering community members an opportunity to resolve their cases without the need to appear in court, promoting safer, insured driving while improving the efficiency of our court system. As a community that heavily relies on driving, our safety depends on everyone on the road being safe, licensed, and insured.
